Indonesia 11: Surfing at a Tropical Paradise Called Ujung Genteng

Ujung Genteng is a fisherman village at tip of a small peninsula pointing south directly to Indonesian/Indian Ocean in southern part of Sukabumi Regency, West Java, Indonesia. This unique location, make it possible to view sunrise and sunset from a lighthouse at this village.

Distance from Jakarta to Ujung Genteng is about 220 km, but due to traffic from Jakarta-Sukabumi and winding road on the way to the location, it may take couple hours longer than normal to reach this interesting spot. The extra effort is paid off after viewing its beautiful and natural beach, ideal wave for surfers (local calls the waves as ‘ombak tujuh’), and observing green turtle (Chelonia mydas) lays hundreds of eggs (at night) at Pangumbahan Beach, nearby the village.

First, let us have fun watching (or doing if you wish) some surfers riding the waves …
