Balikpapan has been well known as an oil & gas or coal mining capital of East Kalimantan, Indonesia. Formally not as administrative capital of East Kalimantan Province, Samarinda is. Neither as a main tourist destination in East Kalimantan, let alone in Indonesia. However, on my last visit to Balikpapan, I discovered a hidden paradise within the city of Balikpapan (Thanks to my son, daughter in law, and my grandson for guiding me to this amazing spot and for delicious lunch too!). This restorant is built on a very steep slope; covered with dense tropical vegetation (feel like in a tropical rain forest and it was raining too at time we were there); facing to the inner city of Balikpapan (Should be a very nice spot to view the city at night!); and has a breath taking view to coast line …
